Travel More with Less in 2010

Travel LightHappy New Year 2010! What are you doing different in 2010? This is the time of year that I start making plans for the New Year. I mean after all I do not want to be planning a Cruise to Greece during the same time that a family member is planning the BIG 5-0 party.

So my first order of business is to set some goals. One goal that I want to do is “Travel More with Less in 2010″. I am not meaning less as in “less money” although that may be one of the benefits of “Travel More with Less”. I am talking about less as in “less luggage”. If it is not the airlines, it will be the shuttle bus driver or the doorman at the luxury hotel that is trying to cash in on all that extra luggage you keep hauling around.

This year we did some experiments with travel using only carry on luggage for trips we took that were under 1 week. It was the most stress free trips I had taken in a long time. With our boarding pass I was able to zip straight on in to the security check points and save valuable time. I saved on the cost of the luggage fees to actually afford to buy something to drink in the over priced airport food courts. The time I saved gave me some extra snooze time so that I was able to travel more rested. So how is a person to do all this?

You can start by visiting my Travel Light page for some tips that I have collected on the way. You might even find a book or two that you can purchase from Amazon.com with super traveling packing tips.  Post your questions or experiences on this blog to share with others.

Is this picutre insinuating that I do not know how to pack? I will have you know that I too travel with a carry on when planning on being gone for 5 days or less. And if I had been invited to Cabo, I could have packed really light and we woiuld not have had to wiat for our luggage. I need one of those realzing, no stress, vacations about now.

What I would really like to do is travel to Tuscany light and cheap. I want to stay near a vineyard, maybe close to harvest time and maybe even help with the harvest as part of the vacation. I would not mind some walking tours out from a central site (can be 4-6 miles even. I want to drink coffee and read the paper on a sidewalk cafe in the morning. Have any ideas?

Second choice would be somewhere warm about this time of year. Maybe a cruise next january or so.
