Cabo on the Cheap

Massage on the beachI love to travel. But I love to travel cheap better.  We flew into Cabo San Lucas a few days ago looking for some rest and relaxation and some sunshine. Spokane has been cloudy and cold and very depressing.  Upon landing at the Los Cabos International airport,  sunshine and a limo greeted us.  Cost: $38 for two for a 40 minute ride down to Cabo. This was set up by our resort  Much cheaper than a taxi.  Our room had a very adequate kitchen with a microwave, refrigerator and cooktop and came fully equipped with dishes and pots and pans. They also supplied us with several choices of water,  (50 pesos  or $4 for 1 litre and 57 pesos or $4.45 for 1.5 litres: coffee for 40 pesos or a little over $3  and popcorn for 25 or $2) Nothing was included. So our first order of business was asking directions for a grocery store. There were several to choose from. There is a super Walmart  and Sam’s Club down the road as well as a Costco. There was a local grocery store and a City Club in town.  Because we  didn’t want to pay for a cab the closest was City Club. (2-3 blocks away) It is like a Costco or Sam’s Club. They charge $2.00 for a daily pass.  We walked there and bought water, fruit and vegetables and some frozen food pretty inexpensively.

I really wanted a massage (this was a relaxation trip) but the cost at our resort was over $110.  A quick walk up the beach led me to a local massage tent right on the water.  There was no privacy, Everyone could see, but at $20 for 40 minutes, I didn’t hesitate. (Well a little at first) It was pretty interesting how it worked, but I have to say, it was one of the best massages I have ever had. (Saved $90)  Now that I know how it works, I’m going back tomorrow before we catch our plane for another one.

Stay tuned for some more tips on how to cut your cost but still have a marvelous time.

Where is the massage tent located? I am going to Cabo next week and looking for a massage on the beach, not in a spa. Thanks!

There are many massage tents on the beach at Cabo. Take a walk on the beach and if you don’t find them they will find you.
