Trump Taj Mahal

DSCN4024 DSCN4021Recently Dan and I had a chance to go to a travel agent trade show in Atlantic City. We had never been there so we decided to go. Our reasoning was twofold. One, we wanted to learn more about our business, (this was our first trade show) and two, we could see Atlantic City. The trade show was held at Trump’s Taj Mahal.

We arrived in the early evening and parked in the parking garage. (Cost: $5.00 for the duration of our stay.)  Checked in. (Our cost was $89.00 per night with trade show discount- regular price $189.00  and up). Our room was nice. Worth the $89.00. Would I pay almost $200? No. The room did have a small refrigerator and coffee maker. There are several restaurants in the property. The first night we thought we would go to the buffet. When we found out the cost,  ($22.00 per person plus tax) we changed our mind and went to option 2 where I paid $12.00 for a grilled cheese sandwich. (I was hungry:) There is a pool (amazingly free), but if we wanted to work out it was going to cost us $20.00 each.

If you needed business services (internet connection) there was a charge of $12.50 for 24 hours for wireless to your room. If you used their business center it was 35¢ a minute. The decor was worn and tired. My favorite decor item were the trees made out of copper piping.

Would I stay here on a pleasure trip? I don’t think so. Would I stay here for business without a discount? No. Not enough services available without being “nickel and dimed” ( or should I say “dollared”)

I hate it when a hotel charges you for everything you really want. It doesn’t feel like three to five stars when they charge for everything you would normally expect.
