It's just not the kids we take on vacation these days but our pets as well. Not all destinations are pet friendly and here are a few tips to help make life easier for Spot.

What does the American Human Society say about Pet Travel?
- - Properly identify pets with ID tags and microchips.
- - Train pets to travel in their crates.
- - Crates should be large enough for pets to stand and turn around in comfortably.
- - Never leave your pets unattended.
- - Take your pets' health records with you, just in case they need to see a veterinarian during your trip.
- - Puppies, kittens, sick animals, animals in heat, and frail or pregnant animals should not travel by air.
- - Many airlines have restrictions regarding pets, and your pets may need a health certificate to fly.
- - Visit your veterinarian.
- - Try to keep pets on the same schedule
- - Research your route, make reservations and carry a list of pet-friendly lodging along the way.
What do I Pack for my pet?
- - A carrier big enough to allow your pet to stand up, turn around, and lie down.
- - A carrier equipped with handles/grips to move easily and is familiar to your pet
- - A carrier labeled with your name and contact info, as well as marked "Live Animals" for air travel.
- - A carrier well-ventilated and free of sharp or protruding surfaces inside.
- - Eating/drinking bowls and food, water and extra treats and toys.
- - Extra leash/collar and pooper scooper/litter box/plastic bags.
Air Travel Tips with your Pet
- - Must have an approved crate or carrier that meets the requirements above.
- - Must have health certificate and proof of rabies vaccination from your vet issued 10 days prior to flight.
- - Consider booking a nonstop, direct flight. Also consider flying during less busy times and days.
Car Travel Tips with your Pet
- - Keep your pet secure in an approved crate or carrier during your trip.
- - Don't feed your pet too much before you start your trip or while your vehicle is in motion.
- - Allow time for food, water, and bathroom breaks.
- - Don't let your pet stick its head outside of doors or windows.
- - Never leave your pet unattended in your vehicle.
