Tips for Traveling Light

Travel Tips: Accommodations | Air | Auto | Cruise | Health | International | Kids | Pets | Security | Travel Light
"What do I need to Pack!" tends to be one of the big questions when planning a vacation. We always recommend to bring as little as possible and travel light. This will not only save you money (luggage fees, porter tips, etc) but save you energy from hauling all that lugagge half way around the world. Here are some travel light suggestions:

What do I need to pack?

- "Take half the clothes and Twice the Money" and you're good to go.
- Research your destination and know what is appropriate at dinner or visiting a Cathedral.
- Pick clothing that you can mix and match.
- Check the weather forecast and plan accordingly.
- Bring only one bottle of all-purpose lotion instead of multiple lotions for hands, face and body.
- Choose a regular toothbrush or razor over electric models.
- Bringing only jewelry you can afford to lose and that won't attract thieves.
- Choose clothes for lightness and washability.
- Try to pack with layered clothing for warmth rather than bring a heavy jacket.
- If you only plan to wear it once, don't bring it. Plan clothing for multiple use.

How do I pack it?

- Iron everything before placing it in your luggage.
- Button all buttons and zip all zippers. The better the fold, the fewer the creases.
- T-shirts, jeans, and skirts can be rolled up and strategically positioned or stuffed in luggage.
- Place the items to be worn first on the top for easy access.
- Compress clothing as much as possible.
- Eliminate wasted space, such as the insides of shoes, which are perfect for socks or underwear.
- Pack in clear plastic bags (preferably zip lock), divide items like underwear, t-shirts, shorts etc.
- Soft luggage will allow you to pack more and maybe eliminate a second piece of luggage.

We hope these tips were helpful and we welome any suggestions you may have to help make your next vacation lighter.
